Over the last two months, a Conuma team has been teaching a course on personal finance called “Making Money Work” to Grade 11 students at Tumbler Ridge Secondary. The six-week program introduces students to the basic concepts and disciplines of personal financial management, including the power of compounding, budgeting, and expense management, investing, handling debt and taxation, and insurance planning. In addition to the training, the students also took part in an investing game using actual stock market prices. All the students said how valuable the training was, with one student remarking, “It was an amazing experience that I will take forward to my adult years.” The next training course will be at the start of the new school year in September.
