Coal Haul – Trend-Roman Mine Coal Stockpiles to Quintette Mine

August 14, 2026

Beginning Friday, August 14, 2026, NexCo, a Saulteau First Nations and McLeod Lake Indian Band company, and Conuma will begin hauling legacy coal from Trend-Roman Mine to the Quintette Mine.

The coal is being recovered from existing stockpiles that have remained at Trend-Roman Mine since the mine entered care and maintenance in 2014. Removing these stockpiles supports environmental remediation and ongoing site cleanup while also creating economic development opportunities.

The coal haul is expected to continue for approximately one month, with a maximum of approximately 30 truckloads per day.

The safe and respectful execution of this work is of fundamental importance to NexCo and Conuma. We recognize that the haul will result in additional truck traffic along the route and are committed to carrying the work out safely and minimizing impacts to other road users and the community.

There are two routes that will be used, described below, and illustrated in the attached figures.

  1. From the Trend-Roman Mine plant site to the Quintette Mine plant site via the Talisman Road, Narrows Bypass Road, Core Lodge Road, Bypass Road and Kinuseo Falls Road and Quintette Mine Road.
  2. From the Trend-Roman Mine loadout to the Quintette Mine plant site via the Bypass Road, Kinuseo Falls Road and Quintette Min Road.

Concerns or comments about the safe and respectful operation of the coal haul can be directed to the Quintette security gate at 250-242-7121.
