On 11 January 2024, BC Hydro notified Conuma that it had completed its System Impact Study, with no major impediments to Quintette Mine progressively ramping up its power demand to 32 MW when it restarts production. This is an exciting and important juncture for the restart of Quintette Mine, where there are several opportunities to reduce emissions by operating an electric conveyor to bring steelmaking coal from the pit to the processing plant, by operating belt filter presses instead of a thermal dryer, and by potentially procuring and operating electrically powered digging and drilling equipment.
