The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) came into force on June 1, 2015 and regulates the reporting of local and foreign government payments by Canadian companies involved in extraction and exploration of resources. The Act was introduced to increase transparency in the Canadian extractive sector and contribute to international efforts to fight corruption, by mandating that taxes, fees, entitlements, dividends and bonuses made payable to any level of local or international government entities be disclosed.
